BOXFORD — Conservation Commission determined Masconomet Regional School District's turf field will alter protected wetlands and require environmental permitting. Voting 5-0 with 2 abstentions, the Commission issued a positive determination for the 20 Endicott Road project, triggering jurisdiction under the Wetlands Protection Act. During the hearing, members questioned whether stormwater treatment will remove artificial turf materials before discharge into the Ipswich River, a public drinking water source, and whether alternative non-discharging designs were considered.
Attorney Crystal Huff stated the applicant committed to avoiding PFAS materials and indicated non-discharging systems would be costly. The Commission also issued certificates of compliance for four projects, continued five hearings, and released a $127,100 performance bond.
