Boxford Board of Health grants septic variance and pursues utility pole rule change. Alexander Constan moved unanimously to approve variances for 10 Killam Hill Road, allowing a wastewater treatment system to be placed 65 feet from the property's well (vs. 100 feet required) and 60 feet from wetlands (vs. 100 feet). The Board signaled intent to revise regulations governing treated utility poles, reducing the required setback from wells from 100 feet to 50 feet for shallow wells only, with a public hearing planned within two months.
National Grid representatives presented their pole replacement project affecting 33 poles for smart outage equipment; the interim approval allows work on poles more than 50 feet from wells to proceed pending the formal regulation change.
